More Gear and More Time Off

More Gear and More Time Off

Date: 01/23/15

Today we join our hero in high spirits despite his current circumstances. Let’s find out what he’s been up too…

Hello My Friends! It has been a little while since my last post, so let me catch you up.

Work has been going off and on. If you read my last post, you know how important it is for me to have full weeks of work to maintain my timeline, so that I can head out on May 1st. Currently, I just found out that I have off another week and a half. Yet I am not deterred or discouraged. Why you ask?

Time off brings opportunity. Something I will take full advantage of. So let me give you the run down.

It was my birthday a few days ago (January 19th, for those of you who want to know), and I got one of the key items for my trip. I got a FREAKING GOPRO!!! Yup, still excited about it 🙂

I got the Gopro Hero 4 Silver. I could have gotten the black, but the silver had the built-in LCD screen and I figured that would be more applicable to my trip since I know I won’t always have WiFi and therefore wouldn’t be able to see the shots I will be setting up. I will be setting up a YouTube channel for my trip shortly, now that I have it.

Next, I also got a Klean Kanteen. I got the 40 oz bottle. It’s one that kept coming up while I was researching and it’s a great company. Check them out! I like it that its stainless steel and I can boil water in it (A must for a survivalist), granted I already have a titanium mess kit and cup. But I’ll give the full equipment run down later.

Other news: I joined couchsurfing.org today. One of the best travel sites you can join if you want to meet people and learn about local culture. People open up their homes for hikers/backpackers/travelers to stay. It’s free. It’s also a win win for everyone. We all get to meet new people, make new friends, and learn a little about each other and the world around us. I’m really excited about it because I plan on using it a lot along my journey. Who better to ask about what to see and where to go than the locals? I also started recruiting for people to join me on the site. It’s a great way to connect to people for traveling companions.

Anyways, I have also started applying for sponsors. Nothing yet, but I’ll keep at it. I will also be sending my idea to various film companies shortly to see what might come of it.

Finally, I have implemented a contingency plan. Because I am getting all of this time off, I figured it would be good to have one. I was going to save this for Maine, but I can always start a new one 😉 You see I have a book that I have been working on. In fact it’s done. I just need to give it one final edit, then I can submit it for publication. So this week, along with the other stuff I’ve just listed, I will be finishing my book and submitting it. So there will be some additional funding for the trip.

Oh, and what I meant about saving it for Maine. In each state, I want to try to get a job somewhat related to what the state is famous for. Maine I chose writing (i.e Stephen King), also not to mention I intend to write along the whole trip, so it worked out. Guess I’ll just have to write a book in a month (the challenge for when I get to Maine).

Anyways, that’s all for today my friends. I’ll see you later this week with more updates about my progress.

Forever your friend,

~The Outsider
