State: Florida So yesterday Jim picked me up and we did some catching up on the ride to his apartment. A long time ago Jim went to our church back home in Maryland and is a friend of the family. Jim moved down to Tampa to do some church planting because he felt God calling him there. He is currently a young adults director at the Radiant Church in Tampa. Jim told me how the church operates and how it’s been growing and honestly, I think all churches should do this. They have groups of all different activities. They started off with a few groupsRead More →

State: Florida Today I woke up early well rested next to my cuddle buddy Mia (Jim and Leanna’s cat). I took advantage of the thing I often dream about (a hot shower), while I had the opportunity and then repacked my backpack. It was a bit heavier from all the kindness (food) Jim and Leanna put into it. I went to Jim and Leanna’s church (Radiant Church), today. Jim had to get there early being the young adults director. Leanna drove me and monster to the church and I forgot that they had mentioned that it was in a movie theater. It was awesome! First,Read More →

State: Florida I woke up from underneath my improvised billboard shelter to an amazing sunrise. I then turned on my nearly dead phone to check the weather. The weather report was wrong like it had been many times before. I was lucky that it was because it was supposed to rain all day. The new report showed it wasn’t supposed to rain until around 2 o’clock, which gave me time to make some miles toward Naples. I set about packing up my gear and went to put on my socks and found a rather large spider on one of them. I almost forgot one ofRead More →

State: Maine Date: 05/10/16 The past few days I’ve been working my way back to Houlton Maine from Mars Hill. The first day I decided to hop on the IAT (International Appalachian Trail), however, after I came down the mountain, I couldn’t find the trail head. So I headed back to town (Mars Hill) and stopped by Al’s Diner and had breakfast. It was as delicious as I had come to expect. I then started working my way back on US 1 toward Houlton, yet after a few good miles, I came across the town of Bridgewater. While I was working my way through, IRead More →

State: Florida I didn’t sleep at all last night. Not just because I was literally surrounded by squirrels, rats, lizards and opossum (one that actually ran across my sleeping bag), but also because I was sleeping near the road….and the railroad tracks. So needless to say I got an early start. Despite the lack of sleep, I was feeling pretty good. It was a beautiful day and I was rocking and walking. I set out with the goal to break my record on miles in a day for two reasons. One because I started early and was feeling it and two because I wanted toRead More →

State: Florida I woke up this morning early, but didn’t want to leave my cocoon of happiness…so I didn’t. A few hours later I got up and broke camp. Feeling good, I set out to check some things off my list of things to do: Get to a library to refill water and power. Get to a Lowes or Walmart to buy some luggage locks and a duffle bag for when I fly out on the 19th. Get something to eat. As I walked, I noticed a Wendy’s across the road. “Sweet!” I said immediately thinking of the free small blizzard I could get becauseRead More →

State: Florida I woke up early and texted Jason a wake up call. He was already up though. We were glad we stayed up and loaded the van the night before, so we didn’t have to do it at 6:30am. Everyone loaded up dressed in sweaters. It was a cold and windy day for Florida (50s progressing toward a high of 72 in the afternoon). We got to the beach that was only 5 minutes away and unloaded the kids and equipment. I helped set up the tent and weighed it down with buckets of sand because of how windy it was. It turned outRead More →

State: New Hampshire Date: 07/15/16 I woke up early, but didn’t get out of my hammock. I was pretty tired from hiking Mount Bond yesterday and staying up playing D&D with my new friends Danny and John. We met the other day at the top of Mount Bond and ended up sharing a campsite. Danny and John are both volunteer firefighters and this was their first big hike. I remember seeing their packs and realizing that this was definitely the case because I had made the same mistake over packing at the beginning of my trip. That night after pausing our game till the morning,Read More →

State: Florida Well I’ve been on the road a month now and it’s been an adventure everyday, and that includes today. Last night, I slept in a little oasis of woods between two billboards and two buildings right next to U.S. 1. I didn’t sleep that well being so close to the road, but I got up this morning determined to go to church. Last night I looked up the churches around me and decided on one called “Morningstar Baptist Church”. Now I know the neighborhood I’m in is not the best, however, I’m not afraid at all because again when the creator of allRead More →

State: Maine Date: June 3rd, 2016 On my journey through all 50 states, part of my mission is to prove if you are willing to work, you can get a job anywhere. Getting jobs along the way helps fund my trip, allows me to learn new things, and is great for the book. However, getting this job was something special. I started out the day knowing I needed to get a job because I was low on funds, but I wasn’t worried because I know what it takes to get a job: initiative and hard work. So I made a sign for the initiative section,Read More →
