So I know the book I’m writing about the beginning of my adventure in Florida is going to be a best seller. How you ask?
I literally have a story for every day.
For those of you that don’t know, I don’t hitchhike. However, if someone offers me a ride in the direction I’m going, I’ll take it.
Today I was hiking with the goal of making it to Long Key from Marathon (around 10 miles and it was midday), so a tough trek but doable.
As I walked a car passed me, stopped, and then backed up to me. The man inside asked me what I was doing. I told him I’m backpacking all 50 states.
“Where ya headed?” he asked.
“I’m my way toward Islamorada,” I said knowing it was the next big island where I could resupply.
He told me to hop in, since he lived in Key Largo and it was on the way.
I learned his name was Ayman and he was originally from New Jersey. Not only did he give me a ride, but he showed me around, bought me lunch, offered to get me a job at one of his brother’s restaurants, which I politely declined since wanted to get a job on a boat. He dropped me off and told me to call him if I needed anything.
I truly believe that anyone who needs their faith in humanity restored should travel.
Also I know that God has my back on this journey because most of the people I’m meeting are Christians (Ayman included) and if they are not then I’m betting God sent me or them on a collision course because I pray every day that God will help me walk the path he’s set for me and that he’ll lead me to people I’m supposed to meet.
Forever your friend,
