My first book

Fate of the Firelight
Fate of the Firelight by Seth Stivala

After 16 years, I finally published my first book! The idea for it started back when I was in high school. I have no clue where the idea came from, but I do remember writing it down in my green spiral notebook. It was about a page and a half and then I forgot about it until I went to college. I found it going through my old school supplies looking for more notebooks. After reading it, I remember thinking that it was a pretty good story, so I transferred it to my computer.

I worked on it off and on for years, until I read Stephen King’s book On Writing. It opened my eyes to everything I was doing wrong with creative writing. Instead of letting the story flow out, I was writing a little and then going back and editing. The revelation of writing the story first and going back to edit latter, let the whole book pour out of me.

My next obstacle was one that a lot of writers suffer from…perfectionism. Once the book was finished, I went back to edit, again and again. Each time I read through it, I felt I could make it better by rewriting this sentence or adding details here and there. But this wasn’t the only problem. There was the worry that no one would like it. Compared to other authors, I was a nobody. What chance did I have? So for years I kept editing until finally the day came.

“If I keep going back to edit, no one will ever read it,” I thought and knew it was time.

Time to give it a shot and see what happened.

So on October 16th, 2020, I published Fate of the Firelight. My first book. I finally did it!

And it went better than I expected. As the months passed by, I got more and more five star reviews. But I knew that this is what I wanted to do even before I clicked that publish button.

Fate of the Firelight is available as a paperback or a kindle E-book on Amazon. Here is a little more about the story:
