In a secluded campground in Alabama where I spent part of the winter, I got a knock on my van and got up to answer. “Hey man, are you really traveling all over the world?” “Yes sir, I am,” I said smiling. “Want to come and see some of the south with a real southerner?” “Hell yeah!” I said and grabbed my boots. I met Bradley briefly earlier in the day, where he and his friend Josh where riding their all terrain vehicles down the numerous trails of the surrounding area. I hopped into Bradley’s brand new side-by-side and we started down a trail. “Yeah,Read More →

Seth Stivala at the summit of Mt. Elbert

Sticky

During my three and a half months of exploration, I found tons of fun things to do in Colorado, despite traveling during the apocalypse. By that I mean during the Covid-19 pandemic or just 2020 in general. So get ready for one big heaping bowl of awesome because I’m proving you can a good time even in tough times starting with: 10. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park This place wasn’t even on my radar until I spoke with locals about what I should check out while I was in Colorado. The more people I asked, the more I realized that I needed toRead More →

Seth Stivala and the finished Beardmobile

Sticky

At long last, the Beardmobile is finished and I’m hitting the road once more to continue my journey through all 50 states! It’s been a long road to get to this point. Since I started the build, it’s been 2 years and 2 months. However, physically working on the van its been exactly 1 year. The amount of stuff i’ve learned during the build feels incredible. Before I started, I had no idea how to do any kind of electrical work or solar and now I can do this: Learning how to do this was one of the things that took me awhile during theRead More →

The End Becomes the Beginning When I returned home after backpacking 3000 miles in 2016, I knew what my next step was going to be, building a camper van. The goal being to build myself up by being able to take more equipment on the road. Since carrying around 30 lbs of film equipment on your back in addition to your camping equipment is not ideal. Learned that one the hard way. I knew that with the van not only would I be able to take more equipment with me and be able to write more, but I would be able to travel faster. Going fasterRead More →

Seth Stivala Rise superhero fly leap jump bestseller

Bent on a Bestseller! At the time of writing this, I have 226 days to write a bestseller. The timeframe being before I turn 30 years old. So what’s the hurry? Well, as we all know turning 30 is a turning point in our lives. Some people freak out. Others reflect on all they’ve learned. However, most try to do something extraordinary either before or on the day they turn 30. I intend to do both (I will announce something on my 30th that I will be doing in 2018). This article is my before hand. The reason I’ve chosen this is that I’ve alwaysRead More →

State: Florida So yesterday Jim picked me up and we did some catching up on the ride to his apartment. A long time ago Jim went to our church back home in Maryland and is a friend of the family. Jim moved down to Tampa to do some church planting because he felt God calling him there. He is currently a young adults director at the Radiant Church in Tampa. Jim told me how the church operates and how it’s been growing and honestly, I think all churches should do this. They have groups of all different activities. They started off with a few groupsRead More →

State: Florida Today I woke up early well rested next to my cuddle buddy Mia (Jim and Leanna’s cat). I took advantage of the thing I often dream about (a hot shower), while I had the opportunity and then repacked my backpack. It was a bit heavier from all the kindness (food) Jim and Leanna put into it. I went to Jim and Leanna’s church (Radiant Church), today. Jim had to get there early being the young adults director. Leanna drove me and monster to the church and I forgot that they had mentioned that it was in a movie theater. It was awesome! First,Read More →

State: Florida I woke up early and felt pretty good because I slept moderately well. I packed up my stuff and headed across the street to the Three Sisters Springs tourism center. I bought a ticket for the trolley ($15) and then got on it. The trolley and access to the Three Sisters Springs is run by the city. There is no public parking at the springs, although you can just walk in for $12.50. But for $2.50 more, I took the trolley because I knew it had two more stops further north. While we drove the driver informed us “They haven’t seen any manatees forRead More →

Mount Katahdin

State: Maine Date: 05/05/16 We woke up when the sunlight hit us in the car. I didn’t sleep well (during the night it got down to 34 degrees and the weather app said it felt like 25). I agree with the weather app despite being in a car with three layers on. Harley was smart and grabbed his sleeping bag and slept great. Sunrise was at 5:15am, which was a lot earlier than either of us were used to. Yet we got up and walked into the Camden state park from the parking lot we slept in. We headed up the road and found a trailRead More →

State: Florida I got up and went with Tami to work at Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens. For those of you that don’t know, after I volunteered for a few days at Cedar Lakes, Tami asked: “Hey do you want like a week worth of work? We just had somebody quit.” Being as that I am always looking for work along the way and have finite funds, I immediately agreed. The work has consisted of digging ditches for new electrical pipe, weeding thud apples (nasty plant with lots of stickers), carrying brush to the burn pit, tilling soil in the field, and today we pickedRead More →
